A Little Fresh Air

Well, it was finally warm enough to get outside and enjoy some fresh air yesterday so that is just what Joshua and I did. First we took a walk around the neighborhood and then we put his swing up under our deck and tried that out. As you can see, all that sunshine and fresh air wore Joshua out! Hope we get more of this weather to enjoy!

Look What Someone Discovered!

A few days ago Joshua discovered that is he pushed on the roll of toilet paper just enough he could roll it enough to find the end. Once he has found the end he pulls, pulls, pulls. Not only does he like to pull the toilet paper off the roll, but he also likes to rip it up into little pieces! What joy a little toilet paper is for a curious little boy! Guess we are either going to have to close our bathroom doors or we will have to invest in a nifty gadget that prevents little hands from unrolling the toilet paper.

A New Venture

As some of you may know, at the beginning of September 2005 Joshua and I (this is Catherine writing, in case you didn't gather that) joined a MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group at our church. Joshua plays with other babies in the nursery while I spend time getting to know other moms. It's been a great addition to our lives. I knew I wanted to get involved even more next year so when they were looking for volunteers to be on the steering team for next year I immediately signed up. So, it's official, I am the new coordinator for the MOPS group at our church next year. It is sure to be a busy summer planning for the year (we meet September-May) and an even busier fall as I will also be taking on the responsibility for caring for Shawn and Erin's little boy five days a week. I am looking forward to these exciting changes!

Seeing Cory Off at the Airport

Tonight Cory left for a week long business conference in Las Vegas, so Joshua and I took him to the airport to see him off. Before going off to his gate Cory wanted a hug and kiss from Joshua. As you can see in the picture Joshua is learning how to give kisses - he likes to lick instead of kiss your cheek. So with a sloppy wet kiss from his son Cory was on his way.

Waiting For A New Cousin

Since the time Erin announced she was pregnant I have been taking pictures of her growing belly every week so that she will have visual documentation of her pregnancy. At tonight's photo session Joshua got in on the action. Seeing as Erin only has a few weeks to go until her due date her belly has become a nice "shelf". Shawn thought Joshua should have a seat on the "shelf" for a picture. It's amazing to think a little boy just like Joshua is in her belly and will be joining us in the world shortly. It's also funny that Joshua is already sitting on his cousin and he isn't even born yet. I'm sure this won't be the last time he sits on his cousin either! We look forward to many wrestling matches between cousins, all in good fun of course!

Joshua's First Word

For a while now Joshua has been babbling and using different consonant sounds with vowel sounds. He says "dada" but not just for dad, so we can't count that as his first word. With this said, Joshua actually began saying his first word (his own version of a word that he consistently uses for the same object) over a month ago! You may be wondering was his first word dada? Mama? The answer is no. Joshua's first is "gee", meaning kitty. He adores the cats (especially Logan) and we are always saying "kitty" whenever we see them around the house, so he picked that word up quickly and came up with his own version. Pictured here is Joshua and his "gee" Logan.

Can't Catch Him Every Time!

Since Joshua now likes to crawl around and pull himself up to a standing position on EVERYTHING he now needs to learn to balance every time he stands up. However, he is definitely still in the learning process on this one! Sometimes we can catch him before he takes a spill, but not every time. On Saturday morning he crawled over to the footboard of our bed and was trying to stand up, but he wasn't balanced enough so he fell down. He started screaming immediately so I scooped him up and comforted him, but he wasn't calming down. After a minute he looked at me and I could see blood on his lip. Apparently when he fell one of his top teeth, which is just starting to pop through, cut into the inside of his top lip. He ended up with a nice gash to his inside upper lip and even a mark on the outside of his upper lip. Thankfully he hasn't been bothered by it and isn't deterred in the least from trying to stand up by everything!

"Tornado Joshua"

Now that Joshua is mobile he has also figured out how to pull himself up on things around the house. The basket full of books in his room seems to be one of his favorite spots to stand by now. Tornado Joshua (as we tenderly refer to him now) ends up looking at book after book and then tossing them on the ground creating a lovely mess! Ahhh, to be a child again and find joy in the simple things!

Starting to " Blog"

Hi all,
This blog thing seems to be the thing to do, so I thought we would give it a try. At least for those of you who don't get to see us regularly this will give you a glimpse into life at the Hager house.
